And at the start of today I have just over 40 miles to run to get to 1500 for the year. Missing all of those miles last week really put the challenge back into what was going to be a very attainable goal.
To help rekindle the pursuit of the goal I got into work extra early this morning and hammered out 10 on the treadmill.
30.5 miles to go.
Monday: 10 aerobic miles on treadmill.
So last week was pretty much a wash. Due to travel and a ton of snow I was only able to run Monday and Tuesday. I did however shovel snow for well over 5 cumulative hours though.
I am pleading to the snow plow gods to please clear the trails around the metro. I really can't handle being bound to the treadmill until all of this melts off.
Monday: 5.3 miles outside. Get it in while you can.
Tuesday: 10 miles on mill.
Wed-Sun: Digging out of the blizzard. (5+ hours)

6 days. 6 runs. All on mill'dred. All in aerobic heart rate zone. Just the bread and butter Lydiard style base building running. Metatarsal is feeling a lot better (as evident by the 6 consecutive days of running on it); about 99%.
Tuesday: 11 miles
Wednesday: 5.25 miles
Thursday: 7.17 miles
Friday: 4 miles
Saturday: 10.5 miles

So had a pretty good weekend. The kids were good. My parents came up for a visit on Saturday. Church on Sunday morning followed by shopping (without the kids!!!). The plan, go for a long run after the kids got into bed. The reality, freezing mist covered everything in ice. Elliptical filled the exercise void for an hour before bed.
Today I pulled out an old yardstick to see how I measured up to last year. The Maximum Aerobic Function (MAF) test is a heart rate controlled run; splits are captured per mile. The results are that I am definitely in better aerobic condition than I was 1 year ago. Not surprising, but interesting to compare the numbers.
Saturday: none
Sunday: 1hr elliptical
Monday: 7 miles 8:35 overall pace.

This week's workout plans were interrupted by mother nature. First, snow. Then wind and snow. Result; 3 days of school closures. Two days of no access to a treadmill. Shoveling tons of snow and the elliptical filled in though, so all was not lost.
Monday: 45 minutes on exercise bike
Tuesday: 1 mile run in deep snow with Sadie. Significant amounts of scooping snow.
Wednesday: 1.5 hours of intense snow shoveling. 1 hour aerobic on elliptical
Thursday: 10.5 miles on treadmill. 8:34 minutes/mile pace. Average HR only 148bpm!
Friday: 4.0 miles on treadmill 8:39 minutes/mile pace. Average HR only 145bpm!

So the weather pretty much has gone downhill since last Tuesday's 60 degrees. On Wednesday I stayed inside and spent some time on the stationary bike. Thursday was the first really challenging weather day of the season; < 30 degrees, blustery gusting winds. So of course I went outside for the run. :-) Friday, quick jaunt on the exercise bike.
Today, well today slipped away much as yesterday did. So at 8:00 tonight I headed out in the snow, wind and cold. I love the challenge of running in the snow, but forgot how hard it is to do so and keep the heart rate down. The night time along around Lake Zorinsky carries a certain amount of quiet with it but add in the snow cover and small amount still falling and it was very peaceful.
Wednesday: 60 minutes on stationary bike
Thursday: 9.7 mile run. 8:42 min/mile
Friday: 30 minutes on stationary bike
Saturday: rest
Sunday: 9 mile run in snow.
